11-12-13 transgender ordinance pulled from fdl city council agenda
The Fond du lac city council will not vote this week on an
ordinance designed to protect transgender people when it comes to
housing. Councilmember Dan Manning says he is pulling the proposed
amendment from the Wednesday council meeting agenda. The amendment would have added the words gender identity and expression to the list
of protected classes under the city’s fair housing ordinance. Manning admits he was surprised at reaction from some
residents in opposition to the proposed change. Manning says he will take the opportunity to educate the
public about why the change Is needed to prevent discrimination.
