10-10-13 lakeland college security

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (AP) — Lakeland College plans to begin arming its security staff next month.
School officials began considering the change about a year ago in response to gun violence at other campuses.  In May, a visitor using the Lakeland athletic facility got into an argument with a student and later returned with a gun, though the situation ended without any injuries.  Nate Dehne, who oversees security at the school, says while the May episode was the only gun incident he can recall in his 10 years at Lakeland, it underscored the reality that no school is without risk.  Under the new policy, Lakeland's security guards will be carrying .45 caliber Glocks by early next month.
