The
Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will open its twenty-fifth season at the
Buttermilk Performance Center in Fond du Lac with a concert on
Wednesday, June 19 at 7:15 p.m. The Symphonic Band is in its 40th year under the direction of Ray C. Wifler, assisted by Dale Shipe and Jill Wagner. The
program will feature tenor David Hein singing Copacabana and I Write
the Songs, and tuba soloist Jill Wagner will perform the James Curnow
Fantasia for Tuba and Concert Band. Hein is on the music faculty at
Marian University and director of the Fond du Lac Children’s Chorale,
while Wagner is the band director at Theisen Middle School. The
band will perform a medley of Henry Mancini hits, along with the music
of Saint-Saens, Grainger, and J. S. Bach. Rounding out the concert fare
are two stirring Sousa marches: The Black Horse Troop and King Cotton. Upcoming
on the schedule at Buttermilk Creek Park is the ever-popular Dorf
Kapelle on June 26 and the Disciples of Dixieland on July 3. A
food concession serving sandwiches, soda and desserts, is available
each Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m. In the event of unsuitable
weather, concerts will be moved to the Fond du Lac County fairgrounds
and announcements made on local radio stations. While
all Buttermilk Festival concerts are free of charge, free-will
offerings are received to help defray costs. For further information on
the Festival, visit the Band’s website at www.fdlsymphonicband.org.
